Our Story: From Gristmill to Guest Rooms

1842

A mill has operated on this very site since 1842, harnessing the power of the Muskingum River.

1906

Construction begins on the current structure, equipped with generators to power its milling equipment with hydroelectricity.

1997

Milling operations cease, marking the end of an industrial era for the building.

2000

The doors re-open as the Stockport Mill Inn, preserving the original architecture while offering unique lodging.

2006

After years of restoration, the hydroelectric turbines are brought back online, once again powering the Mill.

Hydroelectric Power: The River's Pulse

The story of the Mill's restoration is a marvel of engineering and dedication. Today, two rebuilt Leffel Sampson turbines, each weighing 6200 pounds, convert the river's flow into clean energy. This system powers the entire inn and restaurant, with surplus energy sold back to the local grid.

How it Works:

Water flows from the river through a trashrack, into the turbine pit, spins the mighty turbines, and exits back into the river. This simple, powerful process uses over 17 million gallons of water daily, representing about 4% of the river's average flow.

Rooms & Stays

Each of our 14 guest rooms is distinctive, offering a unique blend of comfort and history. All rooms feature private balconies with breathtaking views of the Muskingum River, providing a serene and picturesque backdrop for your stay.

A major credit card is required for reservations. Cancellations must be made 72 hours in advance. Prices vary by season and are subject to change.

Dining on the Dam

Our first-floor restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a terrace that wraps around the building, providing spectacular views of the river and dam. Enjoy delicious meals crafted from local ingredients in a setting that is both historic and breathtaking.
